Staff Spotlight: UPIKE welcomes McCown
0The University of Pikeville welcomes alumna Jocelyn McCown as the new Director for Residence Life and Career Services. As an alumna of the university McCown has experience as a Resident Assistant and has lived in many of the dorms around campus herself.
As part of her new position at UPIKE, McCown will be the director of all residence life on campus as well as coordinator for all Resident Assistants; dorm director for Condit, Derianna, and Gillespie; and her office is the place to go when seeking information or assistance in finding a new job.
During her time as a student, McCown was took part in The Washington Center internship program with a position as a policy research intern at the Institute for Higher Education Policy last semester. While interning at the institute, she dealt with issues concerning underrepresented areas such as Eastern Kentucky, an experience that is sure to positively affect her new position.
“I believe my youth is to my advantage in a position such as Director of Residence Life. I’m able to help RAs from my own experiences as an RA on campus. I have more of an eye for what can be changed and how certain aspects can be improved to better the overall residential experience at UPIKE seeing as I was just a student in May,” McCown said.
