Speaker sees New Testament as peace book
0Last Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m. the University of Pikeville welcomed Ted Grimsrud who lectured about the New Testament being a guide for peace. This lecture was held as a part of the university’s Spiritual Emphasis Week.
Before Grimsrud began his lecture, he took the time to show those who were there a video. It sent a powerful message to the viewers. Its main message was simply to love your enemy. After the video, Robert Musick introduced Grimsrud and his lecture began.
“The message to love your enemy would be beneficial and could be applied to today’s politics and government to prevent so many terrible things from happening. Especially war,” Grimsrud said. He continued, “If our government would stop becoming involved with things that didn’t concern us to begin with, we wouldn’t be at war right now.” Instead, he said “Our government should worry about the things that involve them. There are so many things that our government could do without the use of violence and force.”
When the lecture began to close and Grimsrud accepted questions. He was asked, “Do you think our military should be pacifists?”
Grimsrud answered, “Not entirely. I believe that our government should defend them when needed. However, our military isn’t even needed in some of the countries they’re in. Those countries are highly unlikely to even try to attack us!”
