The UPIKE Bears’ bowling team came up big on Sunday, March 25, bringing home UPIKE’s third NAIA Bowling Invitational National Championship since 2015. This is Head Coach Bobby Brown’s first national championship in his second year with the University.
UPIKE was the No. 7 seed and won their first two matches in a double-elimination tournament, before taking a loss to No. 6 seed, Grand View. The Bears were down, but that didn’t stop them from taking out two other teams and getting their revenge on Grand View.
They faced Midland, the team with no losses yet in the tournament, which meant UPIKE had to beat Midland twice. Both teams gave it their all as they went back and forth in the last match, but it was UPIKE that had a strong finish.
“I am so proud of this team. We fought hard to bring the National title back to UPIKE for the third time. It’s been a fun season and we could not be happier with the result,” said senior, Jessica Frazier.
Megan Hedgespeth was honored with the NAIA Invitational MVP, as well as being named the NAIA Champion of Character, which was announced on Friday, March 23.
