Baseball begins Mid-South Conference play against Shawnee State University

The Bears fell to Shawnee State 11-4 on Friday, March 23, but took the two games before that with a score of 13-3 in each game. Thursday, the Bears won with a great 4th inning scoring 8 runs, which propelled a 13-3 win. The 7-inning contest Friday afternoon was not a great offensive game for the Bears. They only had 5 hits and nobody had more than one. The Bears were outhit 10-5, and scored their only runs of the game in the bottom of the 7th.
The game before that was the complete opposite. UPIKE outhit Shawnee State 21-4, with Jorge Perez and Matt Peterson leading the charge with 3 hits each. They defeated Shawnee after a 10-run inning in the bottom of the 3rd catapulted them to a huge lead, then 2 runs in the bottom of the 8th ended the game.
Rob Rundle, senior, had some things to say about the way the team is playing and what direction they are headed.
“Our baseball team has the chance to get to 30 wins. That’s the first goal for us this season, as well as winning the Mid-South Conference. Our team morale has been nothing but excellent, and we are always supporting each other. I expect great things for this team come late April,” Rundle said.
The next series the Bears will play is at home this weekend against Kentucky Christian University. KCU has an overall record of 0-15, and following that series, the Bears have a Mid-South Conference matchup on the road against the 20th ranked Campbellsville Tigers.
