UPIKE mens basketball pulled out a win Saturday afternoon, Feb. 3, 2018 beating Simmons College, 84-50. The Bears struggled to get their shots to fall during most of the game, except Jordan Perry who managed to score 21 points. The sophomore from West Liberty, Ky., has managed to score more than 20 points for the third game in a row. Along with Perry’s double digits, Chase Parsley racked in 13 points and six assists. Darrion Leslie picked up 12 points with seven rebounds, and Jayvian Delacruz had 10 points and nine rebounds. Key factors helped secure the Bears the win on Saturday. A season-high, 25-30 free throws – 83 percent – and 17 total assists managed to keep UPIKE out of a hole from their season-high 19 turn overs. During the first half, the team had slippery fingers and were not able to consistently catch or maintain control of the ball. “I mean I feel like we played like a team and caused them to shoot some bad shots. Could have been better is we didn’t turn the ball over, but I feel like we are making some good strides heading into conference play again,” Rze Culbreath, senior, said.
