UPIKE finds Sense and Sensibility

Bringing in the New Year, the University of Pikeville invited American Shakespeare Centre to perform their adaptation of Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility. When first walking in the audience was delighted with music being played by cast. With their own instruments and being vocal with no microphone they made it feel alive. Stated in the playbill the cast interact with the audience by having some seated-on stage and others closer to the stage area. Those that were on stage got to be hands on with the cast as they were asked a question or were asked to get up and be a part of the show. The two hour play consisted of comedy and heart felt moments but overall was a tremendous show for the school and community. “I thought the American Shakespeare Center brought interactive experience to theatre that you don’t normally get to experience. I thought it really gave you an experience that felt like you were in the play,” said sophomore Grace Maynard. The doors opened at 7 p.m. to a live musical prelude to the show and the performance began at 7:30 p.m. It was free admission for UPIKE students and $5 for general admission..
