Saturday, Nov. 11 was a great celebration for the University of Pikeville football team as it recognized the senior class of 2018 at the last home game of the season. Seventeen seniors, Pavin Downs, Camron Parsley, Eddie Miller, Sani Warren, Austin Pray, Eric Williams, Zach Bowens, Jordan Olinger, Cameron Hamilton, Matt Benson, Tyler Prewett, C.J. Jacoby, Cornelius Jackson, Chris Figg, Jacob Sword, Casey McLean and Romon Morris represented UPIKE football. The players were accompanied by family and coaching staff, stretched from end zone to end zone as they were applauded by everyone in W.C. Hambley Stadium. It was a quick and hot start for the Bears as they scored on the opening drive of the game leading 7-0. Shortly after the Bears came up big with a forced fumble by Cameron Parsley, led to a scoop and score by junior defensive back Taeron Brown. The Bears wouldn’t score again in the first half after that quick start to the game. Going into halftime, the Rams scored two quick touchdowns to take the lead going into the half 14-13. “It has been not only an honor, but a privilege. Not everyone is lucky enough to play the sport they love at the collegiate level, but here I am, with fifteen others, who have played out their NAIA career, ” said Downs. Downs has taken on the role of long snapper at UPIKE for the past four years. The Bears defeated Bluefield 20-17 during the Senior Day game.
