UPIKE soccer picked up its first win in conference play against Shawnee State University, with the final score 2-1. This win solidifies UPIKE in 6th place in the conference, which will have them face 2nd place Campbellsville University in the first round of the conference tournament. Key to the game was a strong defensive performance by the Bears, which was led by Anibal Navarro. Navarro ended the game with four saves and allowed only one goal. For the win against Shawnee State, the Bears played a complete 90-minute match that ended with the result that they deserved. Sophomore goalkeeper Navarro said, “It was the most important win in the season. After this win, we can go to the conference tournament and play against someone we know we can battle against and beat them.” Navarro also stressed the importance as playing of a team for the tourney. “If we play as a team in Bowling Green, we can go all the way and win the tourney,” he said.
