Missionary Fred Foy visited the University of Pikeville Thursday Oct. 26 to share his journey and experience in Africa, while also discussing the importance of interconnectivity. Foy shared important milestones of his life with students. One was on how he met his wife, Cecily Strang, and how together they both shared a passion for serving Africa.
Foy explained to students that they cannot change the whole world, but they could change the world for one person. One memory Foy shared with students was the time he had to make a difficult ethical decision based on water. While Strang was away, Foy drove out and noticed children covered in dust. There was a drought, and the children were begging for water. Foy could not hand over the water though because it was needed for hand washing for medical assistance. Foy had to leave the children begging for water because they needed the water to be able to help more people. He discussed how important it was to him to continue to build relationships in hopes of sharing the gospel.
“I liked the idea that it is hard to share your religious faith with somebody without helping them meet their basic needs first,” said Rob Musick.
