Sept. 28-30, a number of UPIKE faculty and students participated in the Appalachian College Association (ACA) Summit in Kingsport, Tenn. The ACA is a non-profit alliance among 35 four-year liberal art colleges spread across the Appalachian Mountains. Collectively, these institutions represent 54,000 students. Twenty percent of the speakers at this year’s ACA Summit were UPIKE faculty.
“The ACA Annual Summit provides an opportunity to bring together faculty, staff, and administration leaders from across the ACA to engage in ongoing collaboration and share information and best practices in the ever evolving effort of preparing students for achievement. The two-day program showcased outstanding ACA members across a broad spectrum of teaching, research, and service as well as share proven strategies to implement in your own classroom,” Dr. Thomas Hess, College of Arts and Sciences dean, said about the summit.
UPIKE Provost, Dr. Lori Werth was among the those who spoke. Werth and President Burton Webb presented about the path to leadership.
“To be an effective leader one must have integrity in doing the right thing, possess humility and learn from all people must be willing to provide service to every individual and effective communication,” Webb said.
