Classic Lanes, the home of the UPIKE men’s and women’s bowling teams, got an updated, modern look over the summer. The Bears returned to the bowling alley for the new season to find a completely remodeled bowler’s area complete with new laminate wood flooring and seating.
Classic Lanes also added sleek new pins.
“We are very thankful for the hard work of Greg Clevinger and Joe Justice and their continued support of both the men’s and women’s bowling programs here at UPIKE,” said senior, Matt Cleary.
The renovations took place during a month-long period over the summer.
Cleary and the rest of the University of Pikeville men’s bowling program started off their season this past weekend with the first six-games of the annual 18-game qualifying tournament. The Bears competed against one another to try to show off their skills and show the coaching staff their improvements.
“These 18 games are designed to show Coach Wilson and his volunteer assistants where each competitor stacks up against their teammates,” said, senior bowler, Matt Diamond.
Cleary rolled his way to the top of the leaderboard with a 1294 total pinfall for six-games.
The Bears will continue their competition on Aug. 29 at 6:30 p.m. with their second six-game session and round out their qualifying tournament on Aug. 31 at 6:30 p.m. with their third and final six-game session.
The women’s bowling program also held and completed an annual 12-game qualifying tournament over the past weekend. The Bears were up early as they competed at 7 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
Karlee Evans led the women with a 2358 total pinfall for her 12 games.
