UPIKE welcomes new Communication professor

Robert Rice is a visiting professor at the University of Pikeville for the 2017-2018 school year. He previously taught at the University of Kentucky, Lake Michigan College, and Southwestern Michigan College. He found UPIKE because one of his advisors at UK recommended it.
Rice has a master’s degree in communication from Western Michigan University and is currently pursuing a doctoral degree from UK.
Rice said he loved how the campus was built into the mountain, which gave it a gorgeous appearance. UPIKE is a small campus not just in size but also in the number of students, which translates to smaller class sizes meaning professors have more one-on-one time with students. Finally, both students and staff exhibit hospitality to everyone. It feels like a little family open to new members.
Overall, Rice is impressed with his students’ intelligence and willingness to engage and participate in activities both inside and outside the classroom.
If you are interested in meeting Rice, he can be found at Armington room 419, or you could take one of his classes. Rice will be teaching Public Speaking, Interpersonal Communication, and Health Communication next semester.
Proverbs 18:21 offers advice that has been impactful to him.
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof,” it reads.
