On Sunday, Oct. 9, the 72nd Governor of Virginia, Terry McAuliffe, attended a special screening of the new Breaks Interstate Park documentary that was hosted at the park during an attempt for Gov. McAuliffe to visit every state park. Early in the day, Gov. McAuliffe took a tour of the park and then attended a dinner that was held in his honor. During the dinner, the co-directors of the documentary, Curt Mullins and Andrew Reed, were asked to discuss the film and what they hope to accomplish. “It is a historical documentary about the park and how it was formed. Originally it was just going to be something that would be shown in the park, but thanks to several grants we were able to make a really compelling film and even hire a celebrity narrator,” Reed said. They are not stopping there. They are currently entering the almost 90-minute documentary into film festivals, and they even have hope of putting the documentary on television. “We are currently entering the film into festivals around the country. After the film screens at several festivals we hope to show it on TV. At the very least we know we will be able to do a regional broadcast on public television but we would like to find a way to get it on a cable channel or public channels across the country,” Reed said.
