Men’s Bowling Comes Short at MSC Championship
0Written By Staff Report
The top-seeded University of Pikeville men’s bowling team came up just short of winning its third straight Mid-South Conference Tournament Championship, losing to No. 2 Martin Methodist (Tenn.) 4-3 in the finals on Saturday at Southern Lanes. UPIKE, which has won four straight regular-season titles, lost for the first time in the winner’s bracket to Martin Methodist 4-1. Knocked down into the loser’s bracket finals, the Bears rallied past No. 5 Lindsey Wilson 4-3 to earn another shot at the RedHawks. In order to capture the team championship, UPIKE would have to beat Martin Methodist twice as the only team left in the double-elimination bracket without a loss. The Bears made a great run at it, but ultimately lost 226-179 in the final game of the best-of-seven series. The Bears can now set their sights to one more regular-season event on Feb. 20-21 with the Hoosier Classic in Indianapolis before resuming postseason play with the USBC ITC Sectionals on March 11-13 at a location to be announced. An NAIA Invitational title is still up for grabs as well with that events cheduled for April 1-3 in Anderson, Ind.
