Students present at symposium

Three theatre students and Kim Willard, adjunct instructor of theatre, recently presented at the Appalachian Research Symposium and Art Showcase held on the University of Kentucky campus.
The University of Kentucky sent out invitations for both undergraduate and graduate students of all disciplines who are currently attending an accredited Kentucky university or college to present at the conference.
Those who attended the symposium presented their Appalachian based research and creative work to learn from each other’s findings, discuss research, and perform in an original manner.
University of Pikeville freshmen Corbin Bentley and Thomas Francis along with full-time dual-credit student Amanda Mae Arts performed as Johnse Hatfield, Paris McCoy, and Roseanna McCoy. They presented monologues and role-played scenes from The Feud, Part 1 by Michael Rose Albert. Previously, The Feud, Part 1 had been performed only by professional actors at Jenny Wiley Theatre.
Willard said, “Our UPIKE students represented the University extremely well at performing at a state-wide symposium for Appalachian studies.”
