Gaypia, Johnson named All-MSC 2nd Team
0For the first time since the 2009 season, the University of Pikeville men’s soccer team had players named All Mid-South Conference.
Cooper Gaypia and Dean Johnson both earned spots on the second team. Eighteen players earned first-team honors, while 14 others were voted to the second team by conference coaches.
Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own players.
Gaypia ranked 10th in the NAIA and second in the MSC in goals per game at 1.1. The freshman finished with 15 goals and three assists for 33 total points on the season.
Johnson made his mark as a distributor, finishing third nationally and first in the conference in total assists with 15. The junior averaged nearly an assist per game, good for fourth in the NAIA. Johnson tallied nine goals on the season as well to finish tied with Gaypia for the team lead with 33 points.
UPIKE finished with a 5-11-1 overall record, the best mark since a 6-10-2 season in 2009. The two MSC wins were the first in program history.
