The UPIKE Communication program added J.R. Briscoe as a professor this year. Briscoe comes from St. Louis, Mo., and is teaching four Communication courses this semester.
“When I was applying for jobs, one of my colleagues was asking what schools I was applying to. I told him I was applying to this school in the middle of nowhere, Pikeville. And he said, ‘Pikeville? UPIKE?’ He said he had attended this business conference where they bring all the big business schools across the nation together and they bring their students to do pitches and presentations. And he said that there was this one cohort they were very, very small and they were blowing Princeton out of the water, they were just doing amazing and turns out it was UPIKE. I think research has its place, but for me teaching is everything,” Briscoe said.
Briscoe resides in Pikeville with his wife, Sara, and children, Drake, Lincoln, and Elle. He attended Brigham Young University in Idaho, Southern Utah University for graduate school, and the University of Memphis for his Ph.D.
