Humanities honors graduating seniors

On Friday, April 13, students, their family and friends, and faculty met to celebrate the 2018 Humanities graduates and outstanding students. The tables were full as Patricia Kowalok, professor of art and division chair of Humanities, welcomed everyone into Booth Auditorium for an evening of honoring the humanities.
Then Rob Musick, campus chaplain, led the prayer for the students and faculty who would be honored. Thomas Hess, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and professor of chemistry, greeted everyone. He teaches in the chemistry program but gave recognition to the humanities division for being the glue of all the fields. Students were recognized for their outstanding efforts in Art, Michael Elswick; English, Brandi Kessler; Film and Media Arts, David Chapman; Religion, Ethan Tackett; Spanish, Lauren Vice; and Theatre, Sarah Hackworth and Matthew Conn.
The Effie Waller Smith Scholarship was also awarded for the first time to Hannah Adkins, who is a freshman at the university but a junior by credit hours. The Alpha Mu Gamma and Sigma Tau Delta honors societies were also honored for their outstanding efforts in the humanities division. Thirteen students were honored for making the Dean’s and President’s List for Fall of 2017. “Through all the papers, midterms, and finals, I am thankful to be receiving the English honors senior award from my professor, James Riley,” said Kessler, senior.
