Guest speaker talks about forgiveness at Chapel

The University of Pikeville Chapel invited a guest speaker, Private Billy Moore, to speak March 12, but it was postponed. Chaplain Rob Musick called him on Facebook Messenger Tuesday, March 20 to tell his story, but during the call there were some technical difficulties, and the connection was lost. Moore’s story is on of forgiveness.
Moore returned from deployment in Germany, only to find his wife had become addicted to heroin during his absence. He protected his 3-year-old son by taking him and moving into a trailer. Moore didn’t have the finances he needed to support himself or his son, so he broke into someone’s house and robbed it. He felt a sharp pain in his leg during the robbery and discovered he had been shot. Once Moore realized what had happened, he turned and shot back, killing the person in the process. The police finally caught up with Moore and he was sentenced with the death penalty.
Moore’s aunt wanted him to accept Christ as his savior, and he did. He got baptized afterward. Then, he asked for forgiveness from the Stapleton family. Moore believed in Christ and told the guards and inmates he wasn’t going to die. He is still alive to this day. Now, he is married and is an ordained minister, who travels the world speaking about the power of forgiveness.
