The University of Pikeville’s Women’s Golf team competed in Thomas More’s two-day tournament March 16-18 at Perry Park bringing back a first-place trophy to Pikeville.
Out of the four teams participating, as well as a handful of individuals, the golf team members took over the top 10 spots in the tournament individually, leading to their win of the tournament with a two-day total of 676 strokes overcoming Spalding who tallied 688 strokes to claim second place.
Coach Nelson Scott commended his players by admitting their work ethic was great in the worst conditions Saturday. Temperatures were freezing, and the rain fell as the ladies finished their first round of play.
The Bears were led by freshman Boo Newsome firing a 167 (82-85), followed by freshman Ashley Chaney with a 171 (91-80).
UPIKE now heads to Louisville next weekend for the Spalding Golden Eagles Invitational on March 24 and 25 at the Persimmon Ridge Golf Club.
