The UPIKE Men’s Basketball Team was upset by the Campbellsville Tigers, 67-65 Saturday, March 3. After a huge comeback win against Shawnee State on Friday, March 2, the Bears couldn’t get into a rhythm on offense as they shot only 38 percent from the floor, and 9 percent from the three-point line.
Dylan James, freshman, talked about what the MSC Tournament meant for the Bears going into the national tournament.
“It was a good experience for us. We played and competed in one of the toughest conferences in the country, and it’ll be great for us heading into the national tournament,” James said.
UPIKE was outscored 41-38 in the second half against Campbellsville. Andrew Smith, junior, had the game of his life against the Bears scoring 25 points, and grabbing 22 rebounds. The play of Smith really allowed the Tigers to stay within striking distance to make a run late. It was a close game from start to finish. The leading scorers for UPIKE against the Tigers were Culbreath and Leslie, both scoring 14 points.
In UPIKE’s game against Shawnee State, the Bears were down double digits for most of the second half. Towards the end, the defense sparked a remarkable comeback against a 14-14 Shawnee State team who really came to play. The final score of that game was 92-89, and five players for the Bears scored in double figures.
