UPIKE hosted a Communication Alumni Panel Saturday, Oct. 15 where alumni discussed what they did with their degrees after graduation. Those who attended were Chandler Pacheco, Steve Loader, Maryann Fletcher, Makayla Colley, Elizabeth Thompson, Josh Little, and Lisa and Tigh Compton. Fletcher works for WYMT. Colley and Loader work for East Kentucky Broadcasting. Lisa Compton is at Community Trust Bank. Tigh Compton is an associate men’s basketball coach. Pacheco works for KYCO. Little writes and edits for the Appalachian News-Express, and Thompson serves as the director of economic development for the City of Pikeville. “You always have people who will make discouraging comments about receiving a communication major or minor, but listening to the panel let me see what could be done with it and how the sky is the limit,” said Kaitlyn Good, senior. There were about 40 people in attendance. Chandra Massner’s senior capstone class was required to go to the panel as was Emily Richardson’s introduction to communication class. Students in other communication classes received extra credit for going. “This is the sixth year we have held the panel, and I am grateful to our alumni who returned to offer advice to our students. It is an incredible networking opportunity,” Massner said.
