Students pledge nonviolence

Last week was Peace and Nonviolence Week on campus. Similar to last year, students took a stand against abuse during the Handprints for Peace event Thursday, Sept. 22.
Students picked colors of their choice to make a handprint on the wall outside the Administration Building and signed a promise that for an entire year they would stand up to abuse.
The students have an option of a certain color with each color representing a different form of abuse or violence, such as child abuse, sexual abuse, and relationship abuse.
“With everything in the world going on today, I think it is important to show peace and love and just plain and simple stop the violence,” Campus Chaplain Rob Musick, the coordinator for peace week, said. “Last year, we got about 150 students to put their handprints on the wall, and the same was expected this year. It was an awesome turn out. About 130 students have taken the oath to stand up to violence.”
