As summer comes to a close, and August approaches, that can only mean one thing. School is Thursday, Sept. 1 the Opening Convocation took place on Pikeville’s campus in the Booth Auditorium. The convocation welcomes new and current students to a new school year. That morning Booth Auditorium was filled with the professors of Pikeville, President Burton J. Webb, and the Chancellor Paul E. Patton were all dressed in their graduation gowns. Billy Cochran, SGA President, represented the student body and opened up with the invocation. Following Patton who gave a welcoming speech. Webb was the main speaker sharing stories, some comical and others serious. Overall, he shared his visions about the school and how the faculty are the leaders for students to follow. “I thought the speech was incredibly uplifting and engaging,” Rachel Little, instructor of communication, said. There was a litany of scholarship that was read by everyone and included different sections for faculty, students, and the community at large. Campus Chaplain Rob Musick closed the ceremony with a benediction prayer.
