On Thursday, Sept. 8, UPIKE’s Kim Hammond, the Student Organization Coordinator (SOC), was in charge of organizing UPIKE’s Club Day. She said, “The whole goal of this [Club Day] is to increase membership and to get students involved with the school.” Hammond began her position as SOC at the end of the summer and participated in a leadership training in Orlando, Fla. The International Club, organized by Yu- chi, Hsueh, was present at the event. “It’s about helping the international community on the UPIKE campus,” said Hsueh. This club will meet usually online, via Facebook or through Email. This club will benefit the students of UPIKE by providing interests in new cultures and help the international students “fit in” and make new friends. President, Matthew Conn, and the sponsor, Kim Willard, organized the Theatre Club. Theatre Club exists to enhance the UPIKE theatre program. It teaches students all aspects of theatre from on-stage to off-stage. They will begin to meet on Wednesday, Sept.14 and every other Wednesday. They will usually meet in Armington, but emails will be sent out to every member beforehand to give details. The Black Student Union was originally organized by Derrick Silas, aka “Big Show.” The Black Student Union allows students of all races to rejoice in African American culture, lifestyle, history, and activities. They will begin to meet Sunday, Sept. 18 and on every other Sunday. It will meet in Armington. Abigail Hickey, freshman, attended and chose to join the Theatre and Art clubs because she is an art and history major. “It informs the students, and I like it,” she said of the event.
