UPIKE football to play EKU next year

In every season since he’s taken the reigns, it seems that UPIKE’s football coach Allan Holland wants to take the program a step further. In doing so, the last few seasons have included Division I FCS games in order to beef up the level of competition. This year, the Bears will take a trip to Richmond on Sept. 8 for a 7 p.m. kickoff against Eastern Kentucky.
This will be the first meeting between the two programs and serves as the third consecutive Thursday night game to open this year’s campaign for the Bears.
UPIKE will serve as the home opener for EKU. Although UPIKE has a seemingly dismal 1-4 record against division one schools, the majority of the games have been competitive. The UPIKE football program is headed in a positive direction and these big games are a big reason.
This trip will be a homecoming of sorts for Holland, an EKU alumnus. Holland led EKU to back-to-back OVC titles in 2007 and 2008 while being chosen as the OVC player of the year following the 2007 season.
