On March 5, University of Pikeville’s Campus Conservatives held its first Kentucky Caucus meeting. This event helped increase everyone’s awareness of the upcoming Republican Caucus and to help people learn how to get involved. Guest speaker Roger Ford, Pike County Repulican chairman, spoke about the first-ever Caucus. He said, “This is strictly for Republicans, and this is the only time for Republicans to vote for the presidential candidates. You will not be able to vote for the Republican president in the May primary.” The Caucus, held March 7, had lines out the door for people waiting to vote. The voter turnout for the Republican presidential candidates was much higher than the usual number of voters with 229,667 voters participating. Trump took first place.
