Christians’s Corner: Leo wins
0Written By: Christian Wright
We get it, social media, Leo won the Oscar. Your memes are a river washing over my news feed.
If there is one person whom I’m sure is sick of all the media hoopla, it is DiCaprio himself, but Sunday night when he was making his acceptance speech after he won the Academy Award for best male actor in a leading role, DiCaprio made one thing clear, it’s not about him.
At the end of his speech, DiCaprio moved the entire audience by talking about how crucial it is to the future of this planet that we as a people collectively attempt to slow and eventually reverse the effects that climate change has had on this planet. After making statements such as,“(we) needed to move to the southern tip of this planet just to be able to find snow,” it should be very that there are more important things to worry about than a man getting a trophy for his role in a film, no matter how significant the trophy or the role.
It takes a man of true character to be so selfless and speak up for the planet and all its citizens in what would be, for many, the highlight of their professional careers. DiCaprio could easily have made the entire show all about him, but chose not to.
So while many people will want to remember Leo for his memorable film roles, I say we should remember Leonardo DiCaprio as something more than a good actor, but as a good human being.
