UPIKE volleyball struggles on the road
0It was a tough week on the road for the UPIKE Bears’ volleyball team as it lost to the University of Cumberlands Patriots and Georgetown College Tigers.
On Tuesday, Oct. 14, the match against the University of Cumberlands began with a good start by the Bears as they won the first set 25-21. The Bears took the lead in the second set. However, the offense struggled and the Patriots took the set with a 25-12 win. The Cumberlands also swept the next two sets with identical 25-16 scores. This left the final score for the match 3-1.
On Friday, Oct. 17, the Bears took on Georgetown College. The match began as a toss-up with both teams fighting for the lead. After the Tigers shot ahead at the first match, though, they continued to stay on top. Georgetown soared ahead with set wins of 25-17, 25-5, and 25-22. The match ended with a 3-0 score.
With a current 13–13 overall record and a 1-10 record in the Mid-south Conference, the Bears are looking to make a comeback with this week’s matches as they are set to continue on the road against Campbellsville University on Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. and St. Catherine College on Oct. 23 at 7 p.m.
