UPIKE welcomes Softball Coach

For the past 13 years, Robert Staggs has coached the UPIKE softball team, but with his recent promotion to Athletic Director, he hired a new Head Coach, Christine Sheridan.
Before coming to UPIKE, Sheridan worked as an assistant coach at the University of Evansville in Indiana for three years and prior to that, she worked as an assistant coach at Georgia State University for three years. She also spent a year in Marietta, Ga., at Champions Fast Pitch Academy where she worked in the administration while also supervising running hitting, fielding, and training lessons.
Sheridan attended East Carolina University for two years as a student-athlete and finished out her collegiate career at Georgia Tech. She played shortstop at both schools and graduated with a bachelor’s of science degree in economics.
Sheridan is originally from Pasadena, Md., and has always had a goal of being a head coach. Although this is her first experience working in the NAIA, and she has had to adapt and adjust to new rules and regulations, coaching is still easy and has always come naturally to her. She mentioned that her favorite part of coaching is interacting with the players and being able to gain their trust by relating to them, which in turn, helps her help them become successful. But, she also enjoys being able to wear athletic clothing to work every day.
Sheridan likes the team and how they look so far. She said that the players work hard and have good attitudes, and that when given a task, they take it and get it done. Coach is looking forward to spring and believes that the team will be pleased with the end result of the progress made in fall.
