Greek Recruitment Week is an event that brings the sororities and fraternities together so they can recruit new members for Greek life on campus. This event occurs twice a year: once in the fall and the other in the spring.
There are two fraternities, Gamma Sigma Chi and Delta Alpha Lambda. There are also two sororities, Delta Delta Nu and Zeta Omega Chi. These organizations give students a chance to bond and also allows them know that they always have someone on whom to lean.
Greek Recruitment Week happened all over campus. Greeks and recruits played giant Jenga in the plaza on Monday night, Sept. 8. The second night, they hosted a Greek open house in the organizations’ common rooms. The Greeks also hosted What’s Up Wednesday on the third night and attended the volleyball game on Thursday, Sept. 11. They ended the week on Friday with bid day, which is when the brothers and sisters offer the recruits they like a chance to join the Greek family.
Cody Davis, sophomore and member of Delta Alpha Lambda, said, “All of these events really give the brothers and sisters a chance to get a feel of the type of person the recruits are and how well they fit in with the fraternity or sorority.”
Emily Romito, director of the first year experience and student activities director, said, “Joining a fraternity or sorority can give students a home away from home and a family away from family. A Greek organization provides a bond and a sense of unity between students while also giving back to the campus and community.” Romito is in charge of all the Greek organizations on campus.
Belle Lemaster, sophomore and member of Delta Delta Nu, couldn’t have said it any better, “Being a part of a sorority is more than just letters on a shirt; it’s a sisterhood and a family. These girls make our campus an even better place, and I thank God every day for placing these lovely ladies in my life.
