UPIKE welcomed home its 2018 NAIA women’s national bowling champions to campus Saturday, Sept. 22 to receive their championship rings. The defending NAIA women’s bowling national champions were also picked to take the top spot again for the 2018-19 season in the Mid-South Conference’s official coaches’ preseason poll.
UPIKE finished five points (92) ahead of Cumberlands (Ky.) (87) for the top spot, while receiving seven of the 10 first-place votes. The Bears have won six straight MSC regular season titles.
UPIKE returns a majority of its national championship team including NAIA National Invitational MVP Megan Hedgespeth, Jessica Wolfe and Felicia Montecinos.
The Mid-South Conference coaches picked UPIKE men’s bowling to finish second for the upcoming 2018-19 season, according to the conference’s official preseason coaches’ poll.
The Bears are hoping to repeat as MSC regular season champions, but also to claim the Mid-South tournament titles. Martin Methodist claimed the MSC tournament as well as singles and individual titles last year.
UPIKE returns five bowlers from last year’s regular season championship squad, including Alex Hoffman, Anthony Allen, Gio Montecinos, Eric Kramer and Andrew Letscher.
