UPIKE stages Glass Menagerie

The University of Pikeville introduced Tennessee Williams’ historic work The Glass Menagerie last week on Thursday, Sept. 21 through Saturday, Sept. 23. This play was well thought out and directed with much care by Kim Willard, assistant professor of theatre. She was accompanied by an all-student team. Students Mackenzie Fraley, costume designer; Andrew Letscher, prop designer; and Matthew Conn, stage manager, were all mentored by professionals at Jenny Wiley Theatre. The actors, Allie Chaney, Grace Maynard, Ryan Hogg, and Dylan Martin, learned and conducted this play on a professional schedule. They only rehearsed for three weeks. This was one of the fastest shows produced at UPIKE to date. “Rehearsing and producing a Tennessee Williams play of this magnitude in a three week process was definitely a huge challenge for all involved. But, the end result was worth the worry. It is a fragile and beautiful story and our students delivered it with so much heart and reverence,” said Willard. The next full UPIKE student cast show is expected in spring 2018.
