On Tuesday, Nov. 3, communication faculty Rachel Little and Chandra Massner hosted a “How to talk to the opposite gender” workshop in the Chrisman Auditorium. With about 15 people in attendance, everyone was handed a sex talk quiz and asked to answer the 10 true or false questions before the discussion started. The quiz included statements such as, “A woman is more likely to say I love you first in a relationship, and men ask for assistance less often than women do.” After students answered the questions, Little and Massner showed a PowerPoint presentation with the correct answers based on communication research. During the presentation, students were asked what they thought. While some students answered correctly, other students were surprised by what the research has found. Treat bags were given to students in attendance containing key chain flash lights and Hershey’s kisses. Bradley Loader, a senior at UPIKE said, “It was different than what I thought it was going to be. It was interesting to say the least. If there was another meeting like this one, I think it could be improved by adding more than just the stereotypes of men and women, and I look forward to it.”
