The UPIKE Bears’ baseball team grabbed two wins on Sunday, Feb. 18, after a stressful week of finding an opponent. The Bears had to cancel their home games on campus against Goshen, due to weather/field issues, but were able to reschedule against Alice Lloyd in doubleheader at Pikeville High School.
The bats were hot all weekend for UPIKE as Matthew Peterson, the shortstop, led them with a homerun and triple in the two game series. Alec Barba went 2-2 with a triple and a walk.
“I was seeing the ball like a beach ball, but I couldn’t have done it without the boys behind me,” said Peterson.
Bruce Bell had another great game, getting the win for game one, with 11of 15 possible strikeouts in 5 innings.
Jake Hamilton handled game two the same way on the mound getting the win as well, with 9 strikeouts in 4 innings.
