On Feb. 10, The Growlers, UPIKE’s Speech & Debate team, traveled to Marshall University for the second annual Hatfield & McCoy Swing Tournament. The Growlers participated in 11 events and made it to finals in six of them. Adam Hotelling, freshman, and Tori Breeding, junior, won third place in Duo Acting. Hotelling also won second place in Broadcasting, and fifth place in Informative Speaking. Larissa Jones, freshman, won sixth place in Informative Speaking. William Wheeler, freshman, and Zakary Bray, sophomore, brought home the first place medal for Improvisational Duo. “This last speech tournament challenged us with fierce competition from many states, but I’m glad to see how we stacked up,” Hotelling said. “I am incredibly proud of this team. They have each worked so hard,” Growlers coach, Rachel Little said. If interested in becoming a member of the Growlers for the spring competition season, contact Little at rlittle@upike.edu.
