The University of Pikeville will be hosting the fourth UPIKE Film and Media Arts Festival on April 26-28. The festival is hosted and run by students in the Film and Media Arts program and will screen a variety of films from around the world. With more than one hundred submissions including the newly added screenplay portion, this season is shaping up to be the best so far. “We’ve really come a long way from it just being David, Andrew, and I doing it all and only getting a few submissions,” said festival co-founder Aaron Asbury. “I’m really pleased with the progress we’ve made over the past four years and even though this is the last one where I’ll be a student, I’m excited to see what the festival will become in the future.” Submissions will be accepted from all over the world, though submissions from Kentucky, Virginia, and West Virginia will be able to bypass submission fees. One of the goals of the festival is to promote the art of filmmaking on both the UPIKE campus and the surrounding region. Those wishing to submit can visit www.filmfreeway.com/fmafest and more details can be found at www.fmafest.org.
