On Monday, Jan. 22, the University of Pikeville College of Arts and Sciences hosted the American Shakespeare Center. The live theatre performance in Booth Auditorium was The Taming of the Shrew.
The American Shakespeare Center is located in Virginia where they train for approximately two and a half months before going on tour to perform three different plays including Sense and Sensibility, Macbeth, and The Taming of the Shrew.
“It was an awesome night full of laughs and music. I loved it and I hope they can come back next year,” said Tori Dillon, junior at the University of Pikeville.
The doors opened at 7 p.m. to a live musical prelude to the show and the performance began at 7:30 p.m. It was free admission for UPIKE students and $5 for general admission.
“The American Shakespeare Center is one of the only troupes that closely mimics William Shakespeare’s original work. We had a great turnout last year here and we are hoping for even better this year,” said Jenna Steigerwalt, assistant professor of English at UPIKE.
