The baseball team for the Pikeville Bears went to North Carolina this weekend, to split the series with the St. Andrews Knight, 2-2.
Before the series, Coach Utley for the Bears, said, “We have a solid team all around from pitching to hitting, and especially our defense.”
The men struggled the first game on Friday, Feb. 2, by taking a 12-1 loss, but they bounced back in the next game with a 7-6 win.
Saturday, Feb. 3, was pretty much the same outcome with a loss, then a killer win of 12-2.
Bruce Bell, the winning pitcher from game two said, “This weekend was what I like to call a roller coaster. At points we were so high, then we were so low, we couldn’t find a consistent playing level to stay at throughout the games. I believe that we just needed a few games under our belt, and we will come out rocking next weekend.”
Bell wasn’t the only winning pitcher for the Bears, as Aaron Hedgecock had an outstanding game as well, pitching five out of the seven innings, only allowing two earned runs and striking out five batters.
Alec Barba was the most consistent hitter throughout the weekend as he went 3-4 at the plate, with 3 RBI’s to get the Bears their second win.
