The battle between life and death was the subject of Worship on the Hill on Nov. 14 in the chapel. Rob Musick, UPIKE’s chaplain and instructor of religion, led the service.
The service began with Musick welcoming everyone and having a small prayer before starting with scripture, Deuteronomy 30:1-20. After the scripture, a small video called “Culture of Life vs. Death,” which is found on YouTube, was played, It began with abortions, war, starvations, etc., but by the end, it told viewers there’s hope and a way to get past all that with God. It also explained abundant life is the choice people should choose rather than death. The video included scriptures about choosing life over death.
Psalm 139 was read after the video, and four songs were sung and played by Brian Bendettie as others who knew the songs sang along with him.
Then, guest speaker Kay Hammond, director of Appalachian Pregnancy Care Center, spoke about the care center and how it helps girls who have an unplanned pregnancy and gives them other choices than aborting their child.
Hammond encourages students to pursue their dreams because life is valuable, and they need raise awareness that there are other ways to solve or help unplanned pregnancies other than abortion.
“I wanted Kay from Pregnancy Care Center because I wanted students to see what it looks like to do a work of life,” Musick said.
The service ended with a closing prayer.
