Documentary opens eyes about immigration

Thursday, Nov. 16, UPIKE Chaplain Rob Musick presented students with a screening of the documentary “Who is Dayani Cristal?”
It was a film about immigration and illegal aliens, which showed a man without identification found dead in the desert of Arizona. A tattoo with the words “Dayani Cristal” was the only evidence a forensic team used to justify the death for the man’s family.
The director traced back the man’s life and showed that he faced hard times to provide the best life for his wife and two kids. This film sent a strong message to the audience about the need for reform. Without being born into privilege, anyone could easily be someone like the man in the movie, who is invisible in life and death due to circumstances.
“The film makes you think deeply about these people who get forgotten, their life matters too,” said senior Amari Eadie.
