UPIKE Social Work travels to Texas

Two UPIKE professors and six students traveled to Dallas, Texas, for a social work conference from Oct. 18-22. In previous years, only professors attended the event; however, this year, experiential learning allowed seniors in the social work program to attend as well.
Social Work Program Director and Associate Professor of Social Work, Dr. Genesia Kilgore-Bowling, and Visiting Professor of Social Work and Field Coordinator, Ashton Bartley, accompanied the following students: Savannah Estep, Cortni Marker, Kallie Moore, Devin Kidd, Casey Bishop, and Allie Belcher.
The conference included multiple sessions and workshops about the military/veterans, welfare, and international social work. Students also had the opportunity to network and talk to representatives from graduate programs, as well as volunteer at the conference.
“It was very educational, and I think it opened our eyes up to what the social work field really has to offer,” Estep, said.
