On Nov. 2, UPIKE SGA had its bi-monthly meeting. Instead of having its second meeting on Nov. 21, the SGA hosted an open town hall on Nov. 20.
At the regular meeting, the Senate voted to allocate $500 to the Black Student Union’s (BSU’s) Soul Good fundraiser dinner. The Soul Good dinner will take place on Nov. 16 at 7 p.m. at the President’s home. Seating is limited to the first 100. Tickets cost $3 and are being sold by members of the BSU throughout the week. The money raised for the dinner will be used to allow the UPIKE BSU to become a chapter in the National Black Student Union. This will be another milestone on UPIKE’s accomplishment list due to the fact it will be the first National BSU in the Commonwealth. To buy or reserve a ticket, you may contact BSU President William Wheeler at williamwheeler@upike.edu
Also on Nov. 16, the sophomore class officers will be hosting a major fair for the UPIKE campus from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. in HPE 6th floor lobby. Students will be given the opportunity to talk to UPIKE faculty, staff, and students of each major, as well as KYCO and KYCOM, to learn of all the academic opportunities offered here at UPIKE.
The senior, junior, and freshman class officers are currently looking for class advisors. The advisor will be charged with working directly with the class officers to ensure they are meeting their goals throughout the year. If interested, contact Luke Kopp, director of student activities & leadership development, at lukekopp@upike.edu, or the following class Presidents:s enior Class President Billy Cochran at billycochran@bears.upike.edu; junior Class President Teddy Newsome at teddynewsome@bears.upike.edu; or freshman Class President Jami Young at jamiyoung@bears.upike.edu.
