Basketball Blast-Off started off the upcoming basketball season for the UPIKE men and women. It was held at the UPIKE Gym on Oct. 18 with free hot dogs and hamburgers for everyone that showed up. A game called musical basketball was played by members of the crowd. There were six basketballs around the half court-line as participants walked around while the music played. When the music stopped, they each grabbed a basketball and ran to make a shot, and after making the shot, they sat down. The last one to sit got out, and the winner won a gift card. A three-point shootout was another game that was played as participants shot against one another in pairs. A raffle was next. Tickets were sold as people walked in for the event. Three raffle tickets were called out to win three gift cards. “Thanks to Basketball Blast-off, I am excited for the upcoming season and going to see all the games at Expo Center,” Emily Waller, sophomore, said. After the women’s basketball team was introduced, the Bears scrimmaged to show the crowd what talent the team has for the upcoming season. The men’s basketball team finished off the night with a fifteen-minute scrimmage also showing the crowd the talent on the team.
