UPIKE takes loss to Cumberland

On Saturday afternoon, Sept. 23, at the UPIKE gym, the Bears fall short in a 3-1 loss against Cumberland, Tenn. “This was a tough loss for us,” said Obed Quiles, head coach. Even though the game was on a Saturday, students and fans still came out to support the UPIKE Bears. Noelani Simpson, sophomore, led the Bears in kills with 17 and right behind her, Cassie Jones, freshman, helped with 8. Brittany Reels, freshman, took over the back row with 22 digs while Savanna Zakman, junior, earned 31 assists. Cumberland took the lead over the Bears as early as the first set with an 11-point run. UPIKE fought back but it didn’t go their way until the third set when the UPIKE Bears earned the win, 20-25.
