UPIKE’s chaplain, Rob Musick presented a screening of the Brave New Film’s documentary “Making a Killing” on Monday, Sept. 18. as part of peace and nonviolence week. “Making a Killing: Guns, Greed, and The NRA” features personal stories from people across the US and explains how this profit driven culture affects the lives of Americans every day. Suicides, domestic violence, trafficking, unintentional shootings, and mass shootings have taken a huge toll on America because lack of enforcement on existing gun control laws. Most states have no purchase limit for guns and ammunition, no waiting periods, and the US has made it easy to purchase a gun anywhere with no background checks. Statistics shows that one American is killed with a gun every 16 minutes. The film said that the NRA isn’t doing anything to fix current gun laws issues and that they hire politicians to help them because profit is valued more than the lives of Americans.
