Reserve Officer Training Core better known as ROTC is available for students once more at the University of Pikeville. “ROTC is for everybody. It helps provide some of the best scholarships on campus, and an opportunity at getting the education that students deserve. The 100 and 200 level class are electives which also go towards the PE requirement. The class meets early mornings two days a week and lab once a week (MWF). It is a hands on course so students get the experience needed. Some of the more enjoyable field trips that we take throughout the year are activities such as combat water training, paintball, and high ropes course at Morehead. Also there is no obligation towards haircuts or workouts,” LTC Todd McLean, department head, said. There are currently 18 students enrolled in the ROTC program this year. If you have an interest in joining the ROTC, you can find McLean, or Allen Murphy in the basement level of Armington.
