In June, UPIKE announced the appointment of Karen Damron, Ph. D., as the new Dean for the Elliot School of Nursing. Damron began her career as an RN in Obstetrics and Neonatal Intensive Care, but later decided to move into a teaching role. Until July, she was the Associate Professor of Nursing and taught for more than 18 years at the University of Pikeville. Her credits include a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from UT El Paso, a Master of Science in Nursing from Bellarmine University, and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Nursing from UK. She has also been recognized with many awards, such as the William Wade and Helen Record Walker Teaching Excellence Award in 2014, where she received first place. She is known for her passion for UPIKE’s nursing program and motivating her students to achieve the highest level of success. “She’s really student oriented, friendly, and focused on the growth and development of the nursing program and students,“ Triniti Runyon, a nursing student, said.
