UPIKE Dance Team’s first performance did not go as planned when the music completely stopped in the middle of their routine. The first home football game took place Sept. 16 which kicked off the dance team’s season with their first halftime performance. In the middle of their routine, the music shut off. There was nothing but silence on the field and in the stands. So, the dancers began to count. With the help of the cheerleaders and UPIKE fans, the dance team finished their performance and walked away proud. “It was such a good feeling hearing the cheerleaders help us count, especially when they didn’t have to,” said Samara Callihan, senior on the team. The dance team’s second performance took place at last Friday’s football game, Sept. 22, and went much better considering the music did not stop. The dance team has big plans this season. They plan on returning to NDA Nationals in the spring to try to bring more trophies back home to the mountains.
