PBL helps prepare students for careers

UPIKE students have competed in academic competitions and won thousands of dollars through Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda (PBL). PBL is the largest career student business organization in the world. Each year, PBL helps over 230,000 members prepare for careers in business. It offers more than 50 events for students to compete. Students have an opportunity to bring home prize money by placing in the top of their event. Chandra Hunley, vice president of PBL, has been a part of the organization for two years. “I love that PBL has allowed me to use my business knowledge outside the classroom in a real-life setting while giving me the opportunity to travel,” Hunley said. UPIKE’s chapter is advised by Lois Rogers, associate professor of accounting. Rogers helps the students plan, organize, and fundraise for the year’s trips. This semester PBL fundraisers include Schwan’s Cares, Krispy Kreme, and the Halloween Bake Sale. PBL raises money for conferences so the students can travel without an out-of-pocket expense.
